Tell us a little more about yourself
I was born in Newcastle and currently live in Morpeth which is a market town about 17 miles from Newcastle. I speak fluent ‘Geordie’ and a little bit of French where required. My heart definitely lies in the North East and I have no short or longer term plans to live anywhere else.
I have been married for a number of years to my partner Kelly and have two young boys called Joey and Ollie aged six and four. Although hard work, I love them to bits and they definitely keep me entertained!
What’s your role at GPS?
My role at GPS is Account Management Regional Team Lead and I report directly to the Head of Account Management.
What does your average day look like?
This is a tricky question to answer as working in the Account Management teams is fairly varied and there doesn’t seem to be an average day! Typically though, a day would consist of:
Client calls/meetings to:
- Review current programme status and better understand future work / plans.
- Discuss any client issues / queries or service related tickets they have raised
- Complete programme specific configuration change requests on the GPS APEX platform
- Deal with client escalations where required.
- Represent the client internally and liaise with internal teams across GPS to ensure work is completed to the clients satisfaction
- Dealing with commercial / billing queries
- What do you like most about your job?
The Account Management team is a great place to work and I enjoy working with wider GPS colleagues across the business. I also work with great clients and it has been good to see them grow and expand over the 3 years I have been with GPS.
In terms of my role, it is mainly the variation I enjoy. You never know what you are walking into in the morning but you can guarantee that whatever activities there are to do, the days go quick and the work gets done.
What did you want to do growing up?
I never really had any great aspirations growing up other that being a professional footballer or astronaut! I pretty much fell into office related work which I do enjoy. In a perfect world though I would work in an office through the winter months and work outdoors over the summer!
What would be your advice to anyone wanting to start a career in the same job role and industry as you?
To work in Account Management, I feel having a positive and proactive attitude towards both colleagues and clients is important in terms of relationship building. Clearly you have to deliver in the role but having the right attitude, understanding client needs and being as supportive a possible goes a long way.
When you’re not at GPS what do you get up to in your free time?
The bulk of my time outside of work tends to be spent with my family. This tends to be in form of doing activities with the kids, going for walks up the coast or going to the cinema etc.
My wife often ropes me into DIY which I am pretty good at these days. Happy to do tiling, flooring, plumbing, painting and decorating. This is normally followed up with…. You missed a bit!
I also get to catch up with friends to watch Newcastle United (greatest team on the planet) and do activities such as fishing, golfing, mountain biking, football etc. I am one of these people who will pretty much do anything within reason but doesn’t necessarily specialise in anything in particular.
If you could be anyone who would it be and why?
I am quite happy being myself but if I had to choose someone, I would go for Stephen Hawking. I know pretty much nothing cosmology, space and the various theories behind the universe but I would like to better understand these areas more. I just don’t have the time to do it!! It would also be good to know if we are we alone in the universe or not! I will stop being weird now….
